OLD PHOTOGRAPH FOUND IN A SECOND HAND SHOP - Personal project for a wedding gift
SCHEMER - music theater project by Opera Ballet Vlaanderen
Schemer is a project by Opera Ballet Vlaanderen in which Maja Westerveld allows residents of Ghent, Antwerp and Mechelen to meet each other in a brown café where they sing and dance, mourn and celebrate.
For this project, Joanna edited some rehearsal photos with embroidery art.
VANISHING PASTS - group expo Archipel for Antwerp Art Weekend 2023
De Dam is a special neighborhood in Antwerp with a history of slaughterhouses and everything that goes with it.
The slaughterhouses are no longer there.
Archipel wants to pass on this special history to the new local residents with, among other things, this project: an exhibition in which all kinds of artists worked on the theme of slaughterhouses.
For this project, Joanna made a collage of old photos in which she wanted to emphasize the connection between people and the cattle for slaughter. She also edited the 2023 calendar, published by Archipel, with embroidery art.

The story of a child (Joanna) with a Rwandan father and a Belgian mother. And what effect ith has had (still has) to have grown up in a completely white village environment, without any Rwandan influence.
Most of the words were written some time ago, but in this project they came together with some family photos that were enlarged on canvas and edited with embroidery art and acrylic paint.
This project was featured at:

- expo For Us (June 2023) - group expo in collaboration with Fameus @ Zomerfabriek Antwerpen

This trip had a huge impact on Joanna because of the first physical meeting with her half-sister.
To immortalize this unique fact, photos of special moments were enlarged to A3 size and edited with embroidery art. The same photos were also printed several times in postcard size, each time being edited in a different way with embroidery art.
These works were on display during 10 Years Fameus, Borgerhart 2022 in Borgerhub and coffee bar Viggo's, in the position as art director of
Proza-k.

COLLAGES - it started with postcards, randomly sent by old school mail to friends and acquaintances
some of these cards were later edited with embroidery art
the larger collage works were only made with photos found in magazines, nothing was printed in advance
DRAWINGS/PAINTINGS - a lot of try outs, experementing
in between doodles on those boring moments in office space, on the train, at home or those inspiring moments after a concert or a theatre or after a night out with friends
or peacefully at home
or just for fun
